Death of the Dreamer

Theme: Sleepers

Dreams die the moment they lie
awake by the side of the dreamer's drowsed eyes.

Lying dead and gutted by clocked time,
selling its parts to those whose dreams dine,
on the flesh and wine,
on the very clock the dreamer was timed.

A penny a piece; now devoured in pieces
thoughts taken through torment and treason.

Sold to the dreamer as righteous reason,
and sold once again as the dreamer's demon.
